Oriori is a lulluby, but is also more. It is an introduction of a leader at birth (and before) to his or her heritage. Before my son was born, I sang and talked to him in utero. I wanted him to know my voice, I wanted him to know our joy at his coming into being, I wanted him to know that we were waiting for him. When I first came across the term oriori, it spoke to me on these levels, but it also suggested something more – the privilege to share one’s history and one’s heritage. To pass on such gifts is a great privilege, a great honour and a great responsibility.
Shared History
We have such a rich history, which can help ground us and help us through troubling times. Sadly, we do not share this history enough – that is the purpose of this site.
